Zarah Cabañas is an award-winning Video Artist and Designer based in New York City. She is Co-Founder of Space Acres Studios, a creative space and music/video studio in the Catskill mountains of New York.
As Associate Creative Director and Video Production Director of Blue Man Group for over six years, Zarah was integral to reimagining the company’s theatrical video design aesthetic. Under her moniker vj Lady Firefly, Zarah has created Concert Video Designs for performances with Dave Chappelle, Mos Def, The Roots, Erykah Badu, Busta Rhymes, Josh Groban, Idina Menzel, and Animal Collective.
Since 2013, Zarah has been a Guest Lecturer at New York University’s Video Performance Art courses. Her video artworks have been presented throughout New York including Lincoln Center where she was awarded a Wasserman Award for Best Direction at the First Run Film Festival. A former Artist-in-Residence at The Experimental Television Center, and published on the EyeWash 3 DVD, Zarah has also traveled throughout North America, South America, Europe, and Asia to present her video art at festivals, underground events and in unique collaborations. Zarah is a Film/TV alumni of New York University: Tisch School of the Arts.
Zarah is the Video Content Director of Blue Man Group’s World Tour 2016 and a member of data-visualization collective The Office for Creative Research.
Currently, Zarah is working on two music projects with partner in crime Matt Werden. She was born in Manila Philippines and raised in Silver Spring, Maryland.
